Defining Field Mowing

Field mowing, also known as bush hogging, brush cutting, and rotary mowing, is a process of mowing thick, tall, undesired vegetation to regain property lost to overgrowth. By cutting down weeds and grasses, the organic material can degrade and replenish the soil, allowing insects and animals to return to the land and interact with flora in beneficial ways. After being cut down, acreage can then help with development, animal pasture, property sale, views, and other purposes.

Brush hogging is a common way of removing overgrowth in which a power unit (i.e., tractor) uses a mowing implement attached to the tractor's three-point hitch to chop and mulch grasses and brush. The brush hog, which is powered by the drive machine's PTO (power-take-off), removes excessive grass, saplings, and roughage using a set of big, heavy, hinged blades. As the tractor drives forward, the material is cut, mulched, and allowed to exit out the back.
